Global Grant No. 2236738: The Turnover of Latuan-Curuan Water Project

The formal turnover of Global Grant No. 2236738: Latuan–Curuan Water Project was successfully held on June 17, 2025, at 9:00 AM at the Curuan Parish Church, Zamboanga City. This vital infrastructure initiative—funded under Rotary International’s Global Grant program—aims to significantly improve access to clean and safe water in the eastern barangays of Zamboanga City. The project harnesses a new permanent water source from a river stream in Barangay Latuan, approximately 6 kilometers west of Barangay Curuan.

Key Infrastructure Components: • Construction of a concrete weir and catchment area • Installation of a 5.6-kilometer, 4-inch transmission pipeline • Water filtration and treatment at the Curuan water reservoir • Expansion of the distribution network with: o 5.2 km of 2-inch primary lines o 1.2 km of 1.5-inch secondary lines

The completed system delivers 20 liters per second of potable water, benefiting approximately 4,000 households—or an estimated 25,000 residents—across Barangays Curuan, Buenavista, Quiniput, and Latuan.

This development not only enhances water pressure in existing service areas but also extends access to communities previously without reliable water supply.
